Ali is in the double digits this year -- 10

Happy 10th Birthday to this lovely girl.  Ali is so outgoing and loves to make friends with anyone.  She is quite the preteen and only requested clothes and shoes for her birthday.  She loves tennis and making art.  She still has such a love for animals and wants to be a dog walker and groomer when she grows up.  Happy Birthday Ali-gator!

What a wonderful tribute to Ali from her parents (Brittney mostly).  Ali is a wonderful young lady and we are so grateful for her smile, her laugh, her bubbly personality.  With love on your birthday, Grandma and Grandpa.

It's Great to be 8 - Happy Birthday Tyce

This is what his parent's (Brittney) wrote about Tyce for this great and eventful birthday:

Happy 8th Birthday to this dude!  Tyce is so fierce in all that he does.  He always gives everything he has to whatever he is doing.  He loves his friends and ripping anything apart.  He loves science and wants to be a fireman whe he grows up.  He still gives the best hugs! (Grandma Schaefermeyer agrees, I love my Tyce hugs.)  He has worked so hard at school this year and we couldn't be prouder!!!!

Grandma and Grandpa love your energy Tyce and we love your enthusiasm for life.  Keep up the joy in your journey.

Brittney - The bottom half of her 30's - 36 this year

Happy, happy, happy birthday Brittney.  This young lady is a marvelous mother, wife, medical adviser, home school teacher, substitute teacher, shopper, home decorator and woman of God.  We love her and wish her always the best.

Superbowl Sunday - February 2021

We held our annual outdoor superbowl party.  This year it was at Glen and Christy Davis' lot.  Kansas City lost, but we had a great time any way.

Rich bought a new 70" TV and we had a great sound bar.  It was beautiful weather, good food, great conversation.

Curt Age 43 - January 11, 1978

Curt, our son that is now 43, continues to amaze us.  He has lots of energy for the triplets, remodeling their home, building shelves, and traveling.  At age 43, he is still going strong.  Hang in their Melanee; he is going bald and aging.  Help prop him up!

Happy Birthday Curt!!

As 2021 Begins

We, along with the rest of the world, are glad to see 2020 come to an end.  It was a year of stock market crashes and big stock market gains; it was a year of a world plague called Covid-19 and everyone throughout the world sequestered to their homes; it was a year of political turmoil with our nation's presidential election and voter fraud abounding; it was a year of unprecedented signs of the second coming with infestations, earthquakes, floods and war; and it was a year of learning.  Learning about Christ and the gospel by studying the Book of Mormon, learning about the gathering of Israel on both sides of the veil and learning to follow our prophet.  We have all learned how to conduct and attend Zoom meetings; nothing is live any more it's like a virtual world.

Everyone is now accustomed to wearing a face mask when in public spaces - I still think it's comical to go into a bank with a mask on and sit in Church as the best dressed bandits on earth.  A Covid-19 vaccine is available to essential workers and old people and it's giving everyone something to complain about -we can't get our vaccine in a timely manner.  It's a first world problem.  Some people turned 70 in 2020 - a milestone year.

With all of this behind us, we enter 2021.  I look forward to Theron catching up to me in age and to getting a vaccination.  Wow, that's two goals that I actually may achieve.

January 2, we left for our annual trek to Yuma, Arizona.  We hooked up the truck, fifth wheel trailer, and RZR trailer - our own semi-truck length caravan - and headed out.  I drove the Tesla; Theron couldn't stand to leave it home parked in the garage.  We had a lot reserved so we knew exactly where we would be living this year.  Steve and Jackie Duerden were supposed to share the other half of the lot, but they decided last minute to get out of the trailer business and left us alone, except for all their friends that we associate with down here.

A typical Yuma week consists of washing/cleaning on Monday, cards and games Monday afternoon, Tuesday going to lunch or hanging out doing something, Wednesday's are girls shopping day and men golf day, Thursdays are usually a ride over the mountain or someplace and Fridays are volunteering at the food bank.  We are going to restaurants to eat and shopping some.  We have been to Mexico once and need to go again.  I have been buying more metal yard art - Theron has restricted me from going to one of the yard art stores. We also have gone to movies - something we didn't get to do for almost 9 months.

This is the Yuma valley with all the beautiful fields of lettuce, cabbage, broccoli and all other kinds of vegetables.
This is our humble band of riders.

One of my favorite rides was to the wall between the US and Mexico.  Trump started this and Biden stopped it, we have been able to walk some of the way and even went to the last section in this area.  The mountains are made from granite and they have blasted along the mountain ranges.  It's interesting to see the wall follow the contour of the land rather than jogging here and there.  Take a look of these pictures to see our adventure.

This is the end of the wall in Yuma.

Because Yuma is the area for the Air Force Proving Ground, we hear and see lots of military flights and equipment.  One of the rides is on the Barry Goldwater range.  Here's what we see when we travel through the proving ground.  We haven't been shot at or shot down yet.  This first picture is a watering hole for animals.  It was full after we had lots of rain.

I love the cactus and ocotillo that is everywhere.

The rocks, ridges, dust, dirt, cactus, ocotillo and sometimes a big horn sheep are the vistas for us on our rides.  This has been a fun part of our days in Yuma.

Celebrating Christmas

We took a big chance against the dreaded Covid-19 disease and went up north to celebrate Christmas.  We stayed with Adrian and on Christmas day, Theron and I drove to Morgan to get my mom.  She came down and celebrated with us at Curt's house.  She then went with us to Marc's house and then home.  No one caught the dreaded plaque - and we are certainly grateful for that.  We didn't take too many pictures of Christmas, but I loved this one of Taylor and Cameron - being brothers.

We stayed with Adrian for the next week and ripped her house apart.  She wanted to install new laminate flooring.  The carpets in the hall and family room came out.  New subflooring was installed and the laminate laid.  Only one broken light and an overspent pocketbook were the major damages.

Christmas 2020

The annual Spendlove Christmas party was cancelled this year because of Covid-19.  No one was comfortable getting a large group together in a confined space.  Everyone is struggling with the lack of socializing and we are all trying to invent new ways to celebrate this wonderful holiday.

Our ward decided to have a Christmas light parade for our ward party.  We decked out the Tesla with flamingos and followed razors, other cars and trucks who drove throughout our neighborhoods.  Many threw candy, we chose to throw a roll of toilet paper to anyone out on the curb watching.

This is the finished product.

This is some of the decoration process.  We sparingly used tape on the glass top.

Life Goes On - Our Family is Still Having Fun!

Taylor participated in the State High School Mountain Bike race in St. George the first part of November.  He had a tough race with two flat tires.  This was the race that Zaxton Woods crashed at the finish line and had a small concussion and some large gravel rashes.  Keep going Taylor.  You look so good on those mountain trails.

We learned how to make pomegranate jelly.  Ellsworths gave us some pomegranates to go with our five that we produced this year.  We had to buy this new press to extract the juice.  Theron's applied the muscle; I cooked and bottled the jelly.

The end of November, I had an operation on my right eye.  I had some large floaters that were obstructing my vision.  The doctor also reattached a piece of my retina.  It took a couple of weeks for me to recover, but this really was a good operation.  I have to add here that my sister, Lisa, had cataracts taken from both eyes and my mom has a disease in one of her eyes that is slowly making the eye blind.  Guess it runs in the family.  I'm so thankful for modern medicine.

The newest member of Curt's family arrived a little before Christmas - Mr. Buttons.  A nice black and white cat.  He is learning how to survive being handled by three five-year olds.

Shanna turns 70

Seventy - that's 70 - seven decades - a perfect storm of aging!  I didn't like it much; it's a big number.  The kids couldn't give me the one birthday party I so desired.  So, life will just go on.

Thanksgiving 2020 - A New Type of Celebration

Covid-19 is still raging throughout the United States and the world.  Because of this, we could not get together for a large family dinner.  Adrian's family stayed up north and had a traveling Thanksgiving with the Paschals.  They assigned each family a part of the meal, the brought it Spence and LaRue's house and then everyone collected their dinner and went home to eat it.  Marc and Brittney stayed at their house.  Curt and Melanee came down to our house.  We couldn't invite anyone else so it was just the seven of us.

We heated the pool and the kids got to swim a couple of days.  The weather was cold as it had been all month.  We took a couple of hikes and drove over to the glitter mine for fun.  During these times, you don't feel like going to a park - who knows what disease you will pick up.  So far, we have been free of this disease.  I hope this is not the normal for years to come.

This is always a fun time to collect shiny stones directly from this vein in the glitter mine.

A New Year - 2024

As with all new years, I approach it with some goals in mind and expecting changes to occur in both our life and the lives of our family.  ...
