Furniture Refinishing

I want to go with a modern look on the inside of our new home, so we decided to refinish our kitchen table and chairs.  We decided now was a great time to do this work - before getting our house ready to sell, before moving into the new house, before, before.  We stayed at Adrian's and used her garage; can't think of a better use for that garage.

Originally I wanted the chairs red and the table off-white.  But, that gave the furniture a more country look.  So I went with an off-white and black top with black and gold seat covers.

We used a new type of paint - chalk paint.  This requires us to wipe the dirt off and the you paint over any surface or finish.  So, the old yellow oak stain is out and the 'old ochre' color is in.  Theron stripped and sanded the top and we stained it.  Wow, what a difference.

While working on one project, you might as well do two; so, we refinished Adrian's kitchen set.  She went with the red chairs and old ochre color for the table.  It looks great!  It adds some color to her room and the table looks new now.  We even sanded out Taylor's 'strength' that he had etched into the table top.  Guess he needed someway to remember how to spell it.

When selecting the fabric for the chair cushions, I picked out a floral and the black and gold pattern.  I didn't like the floral, but by accident I laid it on Adrian's red chair and was amazed at how well it looked.  So, we covered her chair seats.

Those projects done, we went to Marc's and used his tools to build a giant 7' table for our entrance way.  It's amazing what you can do with a few 2x4's joined together and planed.  Mason and Tyce helped a lot.  We loved having Tyce there with us - I have never heard 'grandma' so many times.  It was grandma look at this, grandma can we play with this, grandma watch me . . . .  Cute!

We now have a dining room set, two recliner chairs and an entrance table for the new house.  We are all set.
